LPN vs. RN
LPNs and RNs are both licensed nurses, but there are some key differences between the two professions. LPNs provide basic nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. RNs provide more advanced nursing care and have more responsibilities.
Scope of Practice
The scope of practice for LPNs is determined by state law. In general, LPNs can perform tasks such as taking vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with patient care. RNs can perform a wider range of tasks, including starting IVs, giving injections, and assessing patient needs.
Education and Training
LPN programs typically take one to two years to complete, while RN programs take two to four years to complete. LPN programs focus on providing basic nursing care, while RN programs provide a more comprehensive education that includes coursework in liberal arts and sciences.
